Have you even heard Viva Hollandia and You Never Can Beat The Dutch? During the last week, the DB Best team in Kharkiv, Ukraine is having a great opportunity to learn all these songs while meeting thousands of Oranjefans – a crowd of the Netherlands National Football Team fans who travel around the world to support their favorite team – Oranje.
During the Euro 2012 European Football Championship, Kharkiv hosts all 3 games where Oranje plays their opponents: Denmark (June 9), Germany (June 12) and Portugal (June 17).
On June 13, our Kharkiv crew attended yet another open-air festival – Oranjeplein – at Euro 2012 fan zone on Freedom Square. It lasted several hours, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m, before the Netherlands-Germany game.
It’s estimated that around 10,000 supporters came to Kharkiv from each country. We met many football fans from Germany…
… but it’s Oranjefans who “occupied” the city center.
On our Facebook page you can find more photos from UEFA Euro 2012 Fan Zone in Kharkov, on June 13.
About 5:30 p.m Armin van Buuren started his live set. Groovy!
In the middle of their match to the Metalist Stadium, Oranjefans are singing Ukrainian National Anthem. Very touching, don’t you think?
That evening, the Netherlands lost to Germany 1:2, but, anyway, there’s at least one more match ahead and still hope for Holland. Good luck, Oranjefans and Hup, Holland, Hup!
