As the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2015) has demonstrated, 2015 will be a year of wearables. The amount of manufacturers who are entering this market is enormous and keeps growing. The public awareness and consumer demand for smartwatches and other wearable gadgets is booming, and as Shawn DuBravac, a chief economist with the U.S. Consumer Electronics Association, has stated: 10.5 million smartwatches would be shipped this year in the U.S. only. Smart devices is THE trend today in a variety of industries starting from healthcare and fitness, and ending with automotive and finance.
Modern smartwatches, for instance, allow users to get important notifications, texts, emails and perform many other tasks “on the way” with no need to pull out a bulky smartphone or laptop. They simply free the users for more important tasks and activities, while delivering all the useful information straight to their wrists at the right time.
With a crazy lifestyle these days, this type of devices can save lots of time and improve your efficiency throughout the day. This gaining popularity trend raises obvious technical curiosity and interest among the developers and software manufacturers, as it opens new opportunities to run various applications on smartwatches through their communication smartphones.
DB Best of course could not stay aside from these fascinating technological trends, and we developed a very cool application for one of the leaders of the Android wearable gadgets market – Sony Smartwatch.
It can serve as a separate application or an SDK which can be embedded into any smartwatch app. The app’s initial purpose lies in displaying ad banners in various parts of the watch’ screen and quickly connect the user with the advertiser.
Here is how it works:
As the recent smartwatches are still not completely standalone devices, the apps logic performs on the device connected to the watch, i.e. a smartphone. The phone in its turn reacts to the banners’ clicks and opens the advertiser’s website in browser or automatically dials his phone number. The app can be handy when it comes to quick connection with the service provider, ordering goods, etc.
Due to the lack of development documentation, implementing applications for Sony SmartWatch turned to be a pretty challenging task. But thanks to our highly experienced team, the ideas produced during a simple research on the smartwatch apps development, were made a reality.
