Case study: Migrating critical apps from Sybase ASE to SQL Server
Our client, a global leader in security technology, had two mission-critical yet aging PowerBuilder applications running against Sybase ASE that were out of compliance given the lack of high availability and disaster recovery capabilities. With maintenance fees approaching $1 million yearly, our client needed a solution that would both reduce maintenance costs for their applications as well as increase support and performance for the foreseeable future.
DB Best helped migrate these apps to the latest version of PowerBuilder running against SQL Server 2014. The databases are now hosted in Always On Availability Groups under a three-node topology that features high availability and disaster recovery capabilities with active secondary replicas to offload backups and reporting. The new architecture offers significant savings in the total cost of ownership by consolidating data platforms.
